An Introduction

Hi! I’m Lauren Carlson, founder of Joy of Creative Play.
Mom of three, homemaker, and educator

This year my goal is to connect with more likeminded mothers, which inspired me to create Joy of Creative Play.

From my independent play tips and creative activities to deep dives into motherhood musings, recipes, and more, every blog is a chance to share what’s been bringing me joy lately.

  • Kids activity pages & ideas

  • Recipes, rhythms, and family values

  • Personal essays & creative musings

The Story Behind Joy Of Creative Play

Over the past few years, I’ve built a brand dedicated to helping moms do mornings better. Along the way, I’ve learned how to navigate the highs and lows of motherhood, family rhythms, and best practices for inspiring independent play.

Joy of Creative Play is where all of that comes together. It’s a space to share what I’ve learned, what I’m creating, and how I’m navigating this season of motherhood. Whether you’re looking for inspiration, practical advice, or just more activities to keep your child busy, I want this to be a helpful resource for you.

Why the Name?

The name Joy Of Creative Play reflects how we approach motherhood. What we focus on expands, and this year I want to focus on the JOY of every part of motherhood. We look for the JOY of every morning when we wake up to make meals & start the day with our little one, every afternoon when we look for ways to keep them engaged in more play, and every evening when we tuck them into bed & sing one more song.

Q&A: Get to Know Me

What’s one parenting lesson you learned the hard way?

You can’t copy and paste expectations from one child to another. I learned this with my two girls who are very close in age but have two very different learning styles. I no longer try to keep track of their milestones by age, and instead lean into their strengths to help develop their love for learning.

What’s your favorite childhood memory of play?

Exploring outside with my neighbors and running back home for dinner when the street lights came on.

If you could describe your parenting philosophy in three words, what would they be?

Playful, intentional, nurturing.

What’s your go-to creative activity when you need a reset with your kids?

Go on a walk outside & collect nature items along the way.

What’s one thing that always makes you laugh?

When my kids blurt out something unexpected.

What’s a fun fact about you that most people don’t know?

I was once in a hip-hop dance crew and competed in street-style competitions in Atlanta. (Hey, Step Up franchise, call me. 😘)

What’s to Come?

As I kick off Joy Of Creative Play, I’m excited for what’s ahead and I’m so glad you’re here to be part of it! For anyone in the thick of it with little kids, or simply navigating what comes next, I hope this becomes a space that offers useful ideas, encouragement, and connection.

What would you love to see more of? I’d love to hear from you!
Drop me a note in the comments and let’s keep the conversation going.
